Open Houses & Facility Tours
Sometimes companies and universities host open houses or lab tours on the days before or after the conference (this year, most are on Friday, May 13). You may learn more about these opportunities by contacting the host organizations directly to receive details about participation. These events are not CHI events; they are the sole responsibility of the hosting organization, but you may use the links below to contact the various hosts for details.
Attendees must present CHI badges at Open Houses & Tours.

Time: 10 am – 12 pm PT (guests must arrive 10 – 10:30 am), May 13th

Description: Meet UX Researchers at Yahoo, tour our labs and campus, and network over lunch.
Arrival & Parking
At the security gate, please let the staff know you are here for the UX Research and Accessibility tour in Building B.
Parking spots are reserved with cones near the front door of Building B, marked as “User Research Facility Parking Only” signs. Please remove and replace the cones upon parking and leaving. If there are no spots available, please find a visitor parking spot.
In the Building B lobby, check in with the video monitor where a virtual receptionist will greet you. Ask for Nada Jawad or Cristy Rowley.

- Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour to check in.
- Tours will last about 30 minutes. Guests are welcome to hang out before/after their tour to chat with the UX Research team.

HCI@UC Santa Cruz

Location: Jack Baskin School of Engineering, E2 Building, room E2 262, Santa Cruz, CA 95064
Description: Come learn about HCI research at UC Santa Cruz, and enjoy the beautiful campus (amidst redwood trees by the Pacific Coast). We’ll show work from our labs from 1-3 p.m., then adjourn down the hill to the Jack O’Neill Lounge directly by the sea. A great way to unwind after CHI! Please RSVP if you think you’ll come, so we have an idea of numbers!
Stanford HCI + Design
Type: Tour & Dinner
Time: 6 – 10 pm PT, May 8th (Sunday)
Description: Design + HCI has been shaking it up the last few years. We hired six new faculty members who study people and technology at the intersection of design, art and social science. Come join us at the Stanford d.school for food, drinks, demos and posters. Or just come and hang out with old friends! We will supply roundtrip bus transportation (starting at 5:30 PM, last bus back to San Jose is at 10 pm) throughout the event from the San Jose Convention Center (West San Carlos St. side) or it’s a 25 minute Lyft/Uber ride away if you’d like to travel on your own.
This is an open event, so feel free to bring additional guests, but please have them RSVP so that we get an accurate head count for the food and drink.
